All-Women Security Cover For PM Modi's Gujarat Event On Women's Day

Gandhinagar: In a historic move, Gujarat is set to deploy an all-women police force for the security of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's event in Navsari district on March 8, which coincides with International Women's Day. This will be the first time in India that only women police personnel will handle the entire security arrangement for such a high-profile event.

Gujarat's Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sanghavi, announced that the women police force will take charge of the security from the moment PM Modi arrives at the helipad in Vansi Borsi village until the event concludes. The force will include over 2,100 constables, 187 sub-inspectors, 61 police inspectors, 16 deputy superintendents of police, five superintendents of police, one Inspector General of Police, and one Additional Director General of Police.

This initiative aims to highlight the important role women are playing in making Gujarat a safer state. Senior IPS officer and Home Secretary, Nipuna Torawane, will supervise the security arrangements on the day of the event.

Prime Minister Modi will be in Gujarat for a two-day visit and will address the ‘Lakhpati Didi Sammelan’ in Navsari on March 8. The event will be attended by around 1.5 lakh women, most of whom are part of Self-Help Groups (SHGs). During this visit, PM Modi will also distribute over Rs 450 crore to more than 2.5 lakh women from over 25,000 SHGs in the state.

The ‘Lakhpati Didi Yojana’, which was launched by PM Modi in August 2023, aims to empower women entrepreneurs and promote financial independence. The scheme supports women who earn Rs 10,000 or more per month through agriculture, animal husbandry, or small industries.

The upcoming event will celebrate the achievements of women entrepreneurs in Gujarat and mark a significant step forward in women's empowerment.
