Assam declares state holiday on Bhai Dooj

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday declared a state holiday on Bhai Dooj, a government release said.

The festival will be celebrated on November 16. It was earlier a restricted holiday in Assam.

Also called 'Bhai Phonta' by Bengalis and 'Bhai Tika' by Gorkhas, the festival celebrates the bond between brothers and sisters.
