Bengaluru: India's Silicon City Bengaluru was yet again struck by severe traffic congestion on Wednesday night due to heavy rains. Thousands of commuters, including many tech professionals, found themselves stranded for over three hours, forcing some to abandon their vehicles and walk home. Several videos that are going viral on social media captured the chaos, with frustrated residents leaving their cars in search of a faster way home.

The traffic was particularly bad in the southeastern part of the city, where heavy rains caused waterlogging in several areas. The Bengaluru traffic police closed one side of the Electronic City flyover due to flooding at Roopena Agrahara, stating, “Electronic city flyover - incoming to city only - is closed due to waterlogging at Roopena Agrahara. Outgoing is as usual.”

This situation worsened traffic on the key stretch connecting the tech corridor from Tamil Nadu to Bengaluru’s city center. As rainwater collected on the roads, one side of the flyover was shut down to prevent additional congestion. Commuters faced waits of over two hours.

Despite the water receding in most areas by Thursday morning, some locations, such as Kendriya Vihar Apartments in Yelahanka, continued to experience stagnant water.

Frustrated commuters took to social media to voice their complaints, questioning why companies did not implement work-from-home policies. The Karnataka government had advised private companies to allow employees to work from home due to the expected traffic snarls on October 23.

One user reported being stuck on the Electronic City flyover for 1.5 hours and noted that they should have reached home, located 30 kilometers away, by that time. Another user expressed frustration, stating, “Completely Jammed from past 1.5 hrs in the #electroniccity flyover. I must have reached my home now which is 30kms away. Logged out at 5:20 and we are still stuck!”

Another user warned about the potential dangers of the traffic situation, saying, “Complete chaos!! In this situation, if there is a medical emergency, then there is no chance of survival. Electronic City flyover towards Madiwala is almost completely jammed.”

As Bengaluru navigates these recurring traffic challenges during heavy rains, commuters are left wondering if the city can effectively manage these challenges.
