Bengaluru Student, Returning From Pub, Raped by Biker Who Gave Her Lift

Bengaluru: Days after Kolkata doctor's rape-murder, a final-year degree student was allegedly sexually assaulted in Bengaluru's HSR Layout area by an unknown biker whom she had hitchhiked, in the wee hours of Sunday. The sexual assault is said to have taken place at around 1am.

An FIR has been filed in connection with the case.

According to sources, the matter came to light when her friend received an emergency call. Later, he  located the woman behind a truck near Hosur Service Road, in a distressed state, with visible injuries and minimal clothing.

According to sources, the accused fled the scene after the incident. Meanwhile, the victim has been admitted to a private hospital in Bommasandra, and an investigation is underway.

Authorities are on the lookout for the suspect as more details emerge.

It is learnt that the incident took place when the woman was returning after attending a party with her friends at a pub in Koramangala.

Sources said the woman was allegedly drunk.

As they all were getting ready to return home in car, an argument erupted between her friends and the woman after which she got off the car and took a lift from an unknown person after which he sexually assaulted her.

"A man from whom she had taken a ‘lift’ made a criminal assault and raped her. We have registered a rape case and started an investigation," Additional Commissioner of Police (East Zone) Raman Gupta told news agency PTI.

An investigation into the matter is underway. More details are awaited.
