Blinkit Booked After Police Find Button Knives Sold via App, Used in Murders
Delhi Police filed an FIR against Blinkit after discovering murder suspects used the app to buy illegal button knives.
Delhi Police have registered an FIR against online grocery delivery platform Blinkit for allegedly selling prohibited knives through its online platform, officials said.
The case has been registered as FIR No. 73/2026 dated February 14, 2026, under Sections 25, 54, and 59 of the Arms Act at Police Station Khyala, West Delhi.
Police said the action followed investigations into two murder cases in the Khyala area, during which the accused disclosed that the knives used in the crimes were purchased online via Blinkit. To verify the claim, police placed a decoy order for a Stanley knife through the Blinkit app.
The knife delivered was found to be gararidar (manually operable) and exceeded the permissible blade dimensions under government notification. Officials stated that the blade measured 8 cm in length and 2.5 cm in width, exceeding the legal limit of 7.62 cm in length and 1.72 cm in width, thereby classifying it as an illegal arm.
50 Illegal Knives Seized From Stores and Warehouse
Following the confirmation of the violation, police conducted searches at multiple Blinkit facilities. On February 15, 16 illegal knives were recovered from several Blinkit stores across Delhi.
On February 16, police seized another 32 knives from the company’s warehouse in Farrukhnagar, Gurugram (Haryana). In total, 50 prohibited knives have been recovered so far.
Police said further investigation is underway and that notices will be issued to Blinkit as part of the probe.
Blinkit has not yet issued a public statement on the matter.
