Palghar: In Palghar's Vasai West, a sudden leak of chlorine gas was reported on Tuesday evening in the Dewan Maan, triggering a panic-like situation in the area. At least 12 people were hospitalised following the Chlorine gas leak incident. According to reports, the pungent yellow‑green plume drifted in the area, leaving multiple people struggling to breathe.

As per information, on Tuesday a burst chlorine cylinder sent a cloud of gas drifting through the Dewan Maan neighbourhood of Vasai West, sounding an alarm in the region. It is claimed that within minutes of the gas leak incident, around 10 and 12 residents were rushed to the hospital suffering from shortness of breath, nausea and intense eye irritation.

On receiving information, the local police, along with the team of the fire brigade, arrived at the site, wearing oxygen masks, and carried the leaking container to a nearby drain where it was safely neutralised away from homes. The officials later confirmed the situation was under control and there was no lingering danger, urging people to stay calm and avoid the area for a short while as a precaution.

The officials stated that emergency services arrived at the site within minutes after receiving the emergency alerts. The fire brigade teams from the Vasai‑Virar Municipal Corporation rushed to the scene with full protective gear and equipped with oxygen masks. They located the leaking cylinder and carried it away from the residential block, depositing it in a nearby drain where it was neutralised.

The doctors confirmed that most victims were responding well to oxygen therapy and eye washes, though a few remained under observation as a precaution .

Further details regarding the incident are awaited.

Andheri Chemical Leak

The incident in Palghar comes days after a chemical leak was reported in Mumbai’s Andheri earlier on Saturday. As per reports, a chemical leak inside a two‑storey building in the Bhangarwadi section of the MIDC industrial zone in Andheri turned deadly when a 20‑year‑old man, identified as Ahmed Hussain, was declared dead and two others critical at the hospital after being exposed to the fumes. They were rushed to the hospital after the toxic gas leak, attributed to a faulty valve.
