Nagpur: The Congress member of Parliament from the Bhandara-Gondiya constituency, Dr Prashant Padole, had a narrow escape on Monday morning after his vehicle met with a severe accident while he was en route to the Nagpur airport.

The incident occurred in the early hours of March 30, 2026, as the MP was travelling to catch a flight to New Delhi for the ongoing Budget Session of Parliament.

A Collision with a Truck

According to preliminary police reports and eyewitness accounts, the accident took place near the Haldiram plant on the Bhandara-Nagpur highway.

Dr Padole’s white SUV was reportedly struck by a speeding truck. The impact was so intense that the entire front section of the vehicle was destroyed, which the onlookers described as smashed to pieces.

Despite the heavy damage to the car, Dr Padole and his driver survived the crash with minor injuries.

In a post shared on social media shortly after the incident, the MP expressed his frustration over the vehicle’s safety mechanisms, noting that the airbags failed to deploy despite the severity of the frontal collision.

A Commute to the Airport

After receiving first aid at the spot, Dr Padole did not wait for a replacement government vehicle. Instead, he reportedly took a lift from a passing motorcyclist to reach the Nagpur Airport on time.

He managed to board his scheduled flight and is currently in Delhi to fulfil his parliamentary duties.

This is reportedly the third time Dr Padole has been involved in a road accident on this specific stretch of the Nagpur bypass.

Just days ago, on March 26, 2026, he narrowly escaped a short-circuit-induced fire at a government guest house in Bhandara.

Following the accident, supporters and local Congress leaders have raised concerns regarding the MP's security and the recurring nature of these incidents.

There are growing calls for a high-level investigation into the frequent mishaps, an inquiry into the technical failure of the vehicle's safety systems.

Dr Padole, a medical doctor, was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2024. He remains a key voice for the Vidarbha region, and his office has confirmed that he is stable and continuing with his legislative schedule in the capital.
