IIM Calcutta Student Alleges Rape at Hostel, Accused Arrested

New Delhi: A woman has accused a male student of raping her inside a boys’ hostel room at the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta in Joka. According to sources, the victim was called to the hostel on the pretext of “counseling.” The two reportedly knew each other through professional interactions. 

Victim Alleges Drink Was Spiked

In her statement, cited by PTI, the woman said that after arriving for counseling, she was given a drink she suspects was spiked.  She soon lost consciousness and, upon regaining awareness, realised she had been sexually assaulted.

Accused Arrested, Probe Underway

The student, identified as Paramananda Jain, was detained late Friday night for questioning and was subsequently arrested. Police have launched an investigation into the matter.

Incident Follows Kolkata Law College Gangrape Case

This disturbing case comes barely two weeks after a separate incident rocked Kolkata a first-year law student was allegedly gang-raped inside her college by a former student and two seniors on June 25.

In that case, four people have been arrested, including prime accused Monojit Mishra, two senior students, and a security guard.
