Lalit Modi Applies To Surrender Indian Passport, Acquires Vanuatu Citizenship: MEA
The former cricket administrator, Lalit Modi, who is currently residing in London, has put in an application to surrender his Indian passport.
New Delhi: The former cricket administrator, Lalit Modi, who is currently residing in London, has put in an application to surrender his Indian passport, Ministry of External Affairs said on Friday.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that the application has been submitted to the High Commission of India, London, adding that the government has been made aware of Lalit Modi's acquirement of Vanuatu citizenship.
"Lalit Modi has made an application for surrendering his passport in the High Commission of India, London. The same will be examined in light of extant rules and procedures. We are also given to understand that he has acquired citizenship of Vanuatu. We continue to pursue the case against him as required under law," MEA official said at a press briefing.
Lalit Modi Submits Application To Surrender Indian Passport
Lalit Modi, who founded the Indian Premier League, was ousted as chairman in 2010 as he was accused of financial irregularities.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Mauritius on March 11-12.
"PM Modi will be in Mauritius on the 11th and 12th, 2025, to attend the National Day celebrations of Mauritius, which falls on the 12th of March as the chief guest. A contingent of Indian Defence Forces will participate in the celebrations along with a ship from the Indian Navy.
He further said that the Prime Minister will call on the President of Mauritius, Prime Minister of Mauritius, and hold several other meetings with important dignitaries and senior leaders from the country,
Prime Minister Modi last visited Mauritius in 2015.
