New Delhi: A New York-Delhi American Airlines flight was diverted to Rome on Sunday after a bomb threat was reported on the flight. The flight-tracking website Flightradar24 showed the plane changing routes and landing at Rome's Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport. According to reports, the airline crew received a threat via email, prompting them to take precautionary measures and divert the plane. The authorities directed the flight to land at Rome's airport for thorough inspections.

According to reports, Flight AA 292, operated by a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, had departed from John F Kennedy International Airport on February 22. The aircraft had crossed the Caspian Sea before abruptly altering its course back toward Europe in response to the threat.

Upon receiving the security alert, authorities sprang into action, directing the flight to land at Rome's Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport for a comprehensive security screening. The aircraft will only proceed to its original destination, Delhi, after securing clearance from security officials in Rome, sources revealed.

A few videos also surfaced on social media, wherein, the Italian Air Force fighter jets were captured escorting the flight to the Rome Airport. The scary visuals of fighter jets escorting the flight went viral on social media.

In an official statement, American Airlines confirmed the incident, saying, "AA 292, operating from New York to Delhi, has been diverted to Rome due to a potential security threat onboard." The airline further assured that it is closely coordinating with local authorities to assess the situation.

Fortunately, no immediate reports of disturbances among passengers and crew have emerged, and security protocols are being followed. The response from authorities and the airline has ensured the safety of all onboard.

As the investigation into the bomb threat continues, passengers and crew aboard Flight AA 292 will undoubtedly be relieved that the situation was handled promptly and efficiently. The flight is expected to resume its journey to Delhi once clearance is obtained from security officials in Rome.

Reports suggested that the passengers on board the flight are being accommodated and cared for while authorities investigate the incident.

The incident is currently under investigation, and further updates are being awaited. The inquiries left with American Airlines as well as the Federal Aviation Administration regarding the status of the flight.
