A major accident at the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel in Telangana's Nagarkurnool district has left several workers injured, with fears that some remain trapped under the debris. The incident occurred on Saturday morning when a portion of the tunnel's slab gave way at the 14th kilometer mark, causing a three-meter section to collapse, according to multiple media reports.

Workers at the site sustained injuries as the concrete structure crumbled, prompting immediate rescue operations. Those injured were swiftly shifted to the hospital for treatment. Concerns remain over the fate of those feared trapped inside as officials work to clear the debris and assess the full extent of the damage.

The accident comes just days after construction activities resumed on the left tunnel from Nalgonda. Reports indicate that the collapse took place during active construction work, raising serious questions about safety measures in place at the site.

CM Revanth Reddy Orders Urgent Action

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy reacted swiftly to the incident, expressing deep shock over the tunnel collapse. Upon receiving reports of the accident, which left multiple workers injured, he wasted no time in alerting officials and directing immediate relief measures.

Following his orders, senior district officials, including the District Collector and Superintendent of Police, along with teams from the Fire Department, Hydra, and Irrigation Departments, rushed to the accident site to oversee rescue operations.

Top Officials Reach Site, Special Helicopter Deployed

The Telangana government is taking the situation seriously, with Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy personally monitoring developments. Advisor Adityanath Das and senior officials from the irrigation department were dispatched to the site via a special helicopter, an official statement confirmed. Their presence aims to ensure coordinated efforts in rescue and relief work.
