Changur Baba Arrested by ED, Court Grants 5-Day Custody

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has taken into custody Jamaluddin alias Changur Baba  in connection with an alleged organized religious conversion racket and financial fraud case. 

The ED presented Changur Baba and his associate Naveen before the Special Court today. While the ED had sought seven days of remand, the court granted five days of ED custody for interrogation.

Investigations reveal that Changur Baba, who reportedly started as a street vendor selling rings, amassed substantial wealth over time.

Authorities have identified Rs 106 crore in 40 different bank accounts, primarily funded through transactions from Middle Eastern countries, along with at least two high-value properties.

The case came to light as a religious conversion racket where vulnerable sections of society including poor laborers, economically weaker individuals, and widowed women were allegedly targeted. Police allege the accused used multiple illegal methods including financial incentives, false promises of marriage, and intimidation tactics to carry out conversions.

What began as an investigation into unlawful religious conversions has now uncovered a larger financial network with suspected foreign links. Investigators are working to identify the masterminds behind the operation as new layers of the racket continue to emerge during the probe.

The arrest comes amid increased scrutiny of illegal conversion activities across the country, with this case standing out due to its scale, organized nature, and the substantial financial transactions involved. Authorities maintain that the investigation is ongoing and more details may emerge as the interrogation progresses.
