Delhi Police busts syndicate that supplied weapons for killing Moosewala
The police also arrested three men involved in the racket namely Mohammad Ovais alias Shamshad, Mohammad Afroz and Mohammad Adnan Hussain Ansari.
The Delhi Police busted an international arms syndicate that reportedly supplied arms to kill famous rapper Sidhu Moosewala. The police also arrested three men involved in the racket namely Mohammad Ovais alias Shamshad (27), a resident of Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh, Mohammad Afroz ( 25) and Mohammad Adnan Hussain Ansari ( 26), both residents of Hazrat Nizamuddin.
The network was spread across Dubai, Pakistan, Nepal and India. The special cell of Delhi Police recovered twelve automatic pistols including Zigana, Beretta and Slovakian pistols, a SIM card from Nepal, I-20 and Honda car and a moped.
The arrests were made on a tip-off that Mohammad Ovais was to deliver a major consignment of arms on July 25. A trap was laid by the police and subsequently he, along with his accomplices, was nabbed.
It was learned that the trio used to place orders for illegal weapon smuggling from Dubai as Afroz, one of the accused, had his distant relative in Dubai who was involved in this business. The Dubai syndicate used to. get in touch with elements in Pakistan that used to smuggle weapons by air cargo to Nepal and then to India. Each weapon cost Rs two lakhs which was then sold by the trio at Rs eight to ten lakhs. The police have confirmed the use of the weapons used for killing Moosewala.
"The busting of arms racket is a major success to us. It is believed that the arms supplied were also used for the murder of Moosewala. The gangsters to whom the weapons used to be supplied were present in Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh," said HGS Dhariwal, Special Commissioner ( Special Cell), Gurugram Police.
