New Delhi: Delhi's Tis Hazari court has sentenced a man to death for the gruesome rape and murder of a 7-year-old girl in 2019. The court's verdict brings some measure of closure to the victim's family, who have waited for over four years for justice to be served. The case was particularly shocking due to the brutality and cruelty involved. The accused, whose name has not been released, was found guilty of raping and murdering the young girl, leaving the community in a state of outrage and horror.

The court also sentenced the convict's father to life imprisonment for his role in the murder. This verdict sends a strong message that those who aid and abet such heinous crimes will be held accountable.

The accused, identified as Rajendra alias Satish, who has been sentenced to death and his father Ram Sharan, who has been sentenced to life imprisonment for aiding his son in the crime. The court's verdict, delivered by Additional Sessions Judge Babita Punia, came after a thorough examination of the evidence presented by the Delhi Police. The prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt that 27-year-old Rajendra kidnapped and sexually assaulted the minor girl to satisfy his lust.

According to the police, this was not Rajendra's first such offense. He had previously raped a minor girl and was released on bail. After his release, he committed the same crime again, this time resulting in the minor girl's murder. The Delhi Police cited his previous offense as an example of his propensity for violence and demanded the death penalty.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on Rajendra under several sections of the IPC. His father, Ram Sharan, was fined Rs 10,000 and sentenced to life imprisonment under sections 302 (murder) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC.

In her verdict, Judge Babita Punia pressed on the importance of parental responsibility, stating that if Ram Sharan had scolded his son for his previous offense, he may not have committed the second crime.

The court has also directed the District Legal Service Authority to determine the amount of compensation to be awarded to the victim's family. Furthermore, the Delhi Police has been instructed to seek consent from the High Court regarding the death penalty.

Accused Lured Victim With Chips

According to the Delhi Police, the minor girl went missing on February 9 in the year 2019. Her body was discovered two days later in a park, with her hands and feet tied. The post-mortem report revealed that the motive behind the kidnapping was lust, and the motive behind killing her was to avoid legal punishment. Advocate Shravan Kumar Bishnoi, representing the Delhi Police, stated that Rajendra lured the girl with chips and sexually assaulted her at his house.
