Delhi To Raze 34 Government Schools Over Safety Risks, Build 27 New Ones For ₹900 Crore

New Delhi: The Delhi government plans to demolish 34 of its schools citing safety and infrastructure problems, while simultaneously constructing 27 new school buildings across the capital at an estimated cost of around ₹900 crore, according to reports.

The new buildings are being developed on vacant plots and are scheduled for completion within 18 months. To speed up construction and improve oversight, the projects have been organised into five geographical clusters.

Of the 34 schools earmarked for demolition, work has already begun on 16, and approval has been granted in nine other cases. Several of these schools reportedly suffer from waterlogging, raise safety concerns, or stand on sites deemed unsuitable for students.
