Victim’s Parent Move SC For Court-Monitored CBI Probe
Earlier this week, the Supreme Court allowed the parents of the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder victim to present their request for an additional court-monitored CBI investigation before the Calcutta High Court.A bench led by Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna acknowledged the arguments of senior advocate Karuna Nundy, representing the parents, who stated that further investigation was necessary to uncover the alleged involvement of additional individuals.
"Without making comments, we dispose of the application (of the parents) observing that the applicants have the liberty to pursue the proceedings before the high court," the bench said.
The parents had already filed a separate petition in the Calcutta High Court, seeking a further court-monitored CBI probe, and the court recently advised them to seek clarification from the Supreme Court on the matter. The victim’s parents, dissatisfied with the CBI's investigation, had appealed to the top court for an extended probe into the case.
