Former Punjab Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal Attacked Near Gurdwara In Nanded

Nanded: Former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal was attacked at a gurdwara in Maharashtra's Nanded on Thursday. Badal sustained an injury to his arm and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The incident took place at Gurdwara Mata Sahib Kaur in Nanded, where Badal had gone with his family to pay obeisance. According to reports, a Nihang allegedly attacked Badal with a kirpan following an argument. His personal security officer (PSO) was also injured in the incident.

According to reports Badal suffered an injury to his arm and was subsequently taken to hospital.

According to sources, Badal was in Nanded since yesterday and his wife and MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal was present at the site during the time of the attack. Along with her, two to three family members were also present.

The attack comes less than two years after Badal survived an assassination attempt at the Golden Temple in Amritsar in December 2024. On that occasion, a gunman opened fire at Badal while he was performing religious penance, but security personnel intervened and the former Punjab deputy chief minister escaped unharmed.

Thursday's incident has again raised questions over the security of the SAD chief, who has held the post of Punjab deputy chief minister and is the son of former Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal.
