Gaurav Gogoi Stokes Controversy After Using Disputed Map of India, Deletes Post

Guwahati: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has stoked yet another controversy on Thursday as in a social media post made on X and Facebook, the Deputy Leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha used a distorted map of India. In the map that the Congress MP used, parts of Kashmir are shown as disputed and the same with Aksai Chin.

The video was made to criticise the Assam government on the signing of MoUs during Advantage Assam 2.0. He highlighted the various other states which have also hosted similar events in order to attract investment around same time like Madhya Pradesh , Uttarakhand and West Bengal. However, while doing so, the Congress MP used a map where integral parts of India are shown as disputed areas, something done often by anti-India agencies.

This has stoked a fresh row. Assam BJP legislator, Manab Deka has questioned the intent of Gaurav Gogoi, speaking to Republic Media Network, Deka said, “It could have been a technical error, but why he didn’t apologized to the Nation before deleting it and uploading a fresh one. It reflects his mindset as well as that of dynasts like Rahul Gandhi , Deependra Hooda and Gogoi himself. His arrogance level can be clearly understood from this act.”

Similarly, dissenting Congress legislator Kamalakhya Dey Purkayasta also hit out at Gaurav Gogoi. He said, “We are in a constitutional post, while being in constitutional post we should have allegiance to our Nation. But at this point of time what Gaurav Gogoi is doing is really unfortunate, unacceptable and a setback to the democratic values of the country.”

It may be mentioned that the video comes at a time when Gaurav Gogoi and his wife Elizabeth Gogoi is facing investigation on alleged ISI links. The Assam government has already constituted a SIT to investigate into the links between Gaurav’s wife with Pakistani national Ali Tauqeer Sheikh.

The investigation has so far revealed that Elizabeth Gogoi had travelled to Pakistan several times and even by road before and after her marriage with the Congress MP, who is also the son of former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi. 

Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has recently said that the State government will seek Interpol intervention in the case to reveal the deep roots.
