Gurugram Startup Fires Employee in 20 Days Over ‘Sutta Breaks’ & ‘Attitude Problem’
A Gurugram startup fired an employee in 20 days, citing "attitude issues" and "Sutta breaks," sparking online debate on toxic work culture.
New Delhi: A Gurugram-based startup is facing backlash online after a former employee shared his abrupt termination experience on Reddit.
The employee claimed he was fired just 20 days into the job for reasons that ranged from "not being down to earth" to leaving work on time.
In his post, he detailed how his employer disapproved of him taking breaks with colleagues, discouraged forming groups, and later insisted he work from the director’s cabin.
The final trigger, he alleged, was looking outside the cabin during a conversation, which led to his immediate termination.
In the Reddit post, the user wrote: “So I joined this startup in Gurgaon and on the third day my employer tells me I’m not down to earth, I have an attitude problem and this way we can’t work together. I didn’t understand still I said I don’t attitude, I’ll work on it although I did not even understand why he was saying that. Me and other 2 joinees used to go for tea and smoke together sometimes so he started having problems with that now. Don’t create groups, it’s not good for the company etc. After some time he started having problems with me leaving on time 7 pm. You are leaving exactly at 7, this is not good etc
All this happening in first 15 days of work.
On the 20th day around the director or owner asked to work from his cabin instead of my desk and said for some days you’ll be working here only. Dude who works like that in a cabin all day with your director. I still agreed, but at 7 pm I was looking out of the cabin to see if one the colleague I made recently a friend has left or not for our day end Sutta and the director suddenly got frustrated and said why you looking outside I’m talking here this that and asked the hr to terminate me immediately.”
Netizens were quick to criticize the startup’s work culture.
One user called it a “good riddance” for the employee, advising him to find a workplace with more professionalism.

Others mocked the unrealistic expectations of some startups, with one person sarcastically saying, “These startups think they’re gods.”
Another shared a similar experience of quitting a job on the second day after being asked to work 12-hour shifts.
