New Delhi: An IndiGo plane flying from Delhi to Goa made an emergency landing at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on Wednesday evening, reportedly due to an engine failure.

The IndiGo flight (6E-6271), en route from Delhi to Goa, was forced to divert and land in Mumbai following a reported mid-air engine failure.

This incident comes amid a series of emergency and precautionary landings across multiple airlines, following the tragic crash of Air India flight AI-171. The crash claimed the lives of 241 out of the 242 people onboard, along with 19 others on the ground, marking it as India’s worst aviation disaster. The ill-fated London-bound Air India flight had crashed immediately after it took off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad, into a medical college building.

Speaking about the Indigo flight's emergency landing in Mumbai, as per sources, a technical issue was detected in IndiGo’s Delhi–Goa plane 6E 6271 that forced the aircraft to make an emergency landing in Mumbai. All passengers are reportedly safe.

An alternate flight was being arranged for the passengers to continue their journey.

IndiGo Flight Landing At Mumbai Airport

The Airbus A320 Neo experienced technical issues shortly after takeoff from Delhi, with one engine reportedly failing mid-flight. The pilot declared emergency around 9:25 PM IST and diverted the aircraft to Mumbai.

The plane landed safely at 9:42 PM IST, with all passengers and crew. At the time of landing at Mumbai airport, emergency services were deployed on standby.

All the passengers and crew members are safe, and IndiGo has initiated an internal probe into the incident. Regulatory authorities are expected to conduct a detailed investigation soon.

IndiGo Delhi–Patna flight narrow escape

In another incident that could have turned into a security situation, a major mishap was narrowly averted at Patna’s Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport on Tuesday after an IndiGo flight from Delhi overshot the runway during landing but managed to take off again in time, preventing a potential disaster.

Ever since the Air India plane crash, airlines have been taking no chances with even minor technical glitches, resorting to emergency and precautionary landings to ensure passenger safety.

However, despite extensive pre-flight checks, a sense of security anxiety continues to prevail among passengers who rely on air travel as their primary mode of transportation.
