Uninstall Hindi, Make Tamil Official Language: Tamil Nadu's CM MK Stalin Sparks Fresh Row, Calls Sanskrit Dead
Language Row: Stalin’s latest tirade on social media platform X targeted the BJP for not making Tamil an official language on par with Hindi.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has once again attacked the BJP-led Centre over language policies, accusing it of Hindi imposition and neglecting Tamil culture. Stalin said that government should remove Hindi lanaguaage and make Tamil as official languuage of Tamil Nadu, he also calls Sanskrit - a dead lanaguge on which sentre is wasting money.
He said, “Rather than installing Sengol in Parliament, uninstall Hindi from Union Government offices in Tamil Nadu. Instead of hollow praise, make Tamil an official language on par with Hindi and allot more funds for Tamil than a dead language like Sanskrit.”
Political Gimmicks Over Real Action
Stalin’s latest tirade on social media platform X targeted the BJP for not making Tamil an official language on par with Hindi. He demanded the removal of Hindi from central government offices in Tamil Nadu and accused the Centre of spending more on Sanskrit than Tamil.
DMK’s Own Record on Tamil Development Questioned
BJP-leader Annamalai fired back at Stalin, highlighting the DMK’s lack of efforts in taking Tamil beyond Tamil Nadu. “What were your achievements in propagating our Tamil language beyond Tamil Nadu while in power at the State and the Centre? Did anyone obstruct DMK from doing it?” Annamalai asked.
He also pointed out that the Tamil Development Centre program was launched by the previous AIADMK government, not the DMK. “What efforts have you taken to roll out the Tamil Development Centre programme commenced by the previous AIADMK regime?” Annamalai said.
Stalin accused the BJP of “desperate attempts” to saffronise Tamil poet Thiruvalluvar, demanding that the Thirukkural be declared India’s National Book. However, BJP leaders dismissed his statements as mere posturing, pointing out that Stalin’s own party had not pushed for this when it had a role in national politics.
He also lashed out at the naming of railway projects and schemes in Sanskrit, arguing that Tamil Nadu’s trains should be named in Tamil. “Stop wasting taxpayers' money on 'Hindi Pakhwadas' in Tamil Nadu. End the absurdity of imposing Sanskrit names like Antyodaya, Tejas, and Vande Bharat on Tamil Nadu’s trains,” Stalin wrote.
‘Modi Has Done More for Tamil Than You’: Annamalai’s Counterattack
Annamalai did not hold back, asserting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has done far more than Stalin to promote Tamil language and culture. “Have you at least taken half the effort taken by our Hon PM Thiru @narendramodi avl to spread the richness of Tamil language and culture beyond TN?” he asked.
He further alleged that Stalin and the DMK want to keep Tamil confined within the state instead of expanding its reach. “The matter is not about your demands; you have always wished that Tamil remain confined within the borders of our State,” Annamalai said.
