Madhya Pradesh: Woman raped, husband killed by his friends

After two friends along with a man consumed alcohol in Lateri village on Monday, a friend raped his wife while another killed him after he tried to protest.

A woman was raped while her husband was killed in the Lateri village in Vidisha district, Madhya Pradesh. This happened on the second day of Diwali. Speaking to the media, BS Sisodiya, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer revealed the shocking story of the woman. He said that the woman had told them about the involvement of accused Sunil Kushwaha and Manoj Ahirwar. They were the residents of the same village. She claimed that both consumed alcohol with her husband after which Kushwaha took her behind the house and raped her. When her husband learned about this, he tried to protest. However, he was strangled to death by the other friend Ahirwar.

Sisodiya said, "The woman said two men from village Sunil Kushwaha and Manoj Ahirwar came to her home on Monday. She claimed that both drank alcohol with her husband and later Sunil raped her. When her husband got to know about it, he opposed but Manoj strangled him to death. We are trying to arrest them.”

Woman grievously injured

Reportedly, the two accused were the friends of the woman’s husband. When she tried to offer resistance, Kushwaha beat her up so badly that she sustained serious injuries. Immediately after killing her husband, they fled the spot. The local police have registered a case and are searching for Kushwaha and Ahirwar.

Madhya Pradesh tops the list

Recently, the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) released the data pertaining to violence against women for the year 2017 after a long delay. As many as 5,562 cases of rapes were reported in Madhya Pradesh, which was the highest figure for any state in the country. This implies that over 15 rapes are reported every hour in this state. 3,066 of these rapes (55.1%) are of persons below the age of 18 years. There is also an additional figure of 964 minor rapes registered separately under the head of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in the NCRB data.
