Maharashtra Govt Suspends State Bus Services To Karnataka After Attack on MSRTC Bus
Maharashtra Transport Minister ordered the suspension of the state transport buses to Karnataka after an MSRTC bus was attacked by pro-Kannada activists.
Mumbai: Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik on Saturday ordered the suspension of the state transport buses to Karnataka after an MSRTC bus was attacked by pro-Kannada activists.
Transport Minister Sarnaik said that a Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus traveling from Bengaluru to Mumbai was attacked by pro-Kannada activists near Belagavi in, Karnataka, on Friday night.
They also blackened the face of driver Bhaskar Jadhav and assaulted him, the minister added. Sarnaik also said that bus services will not resume until the Karnataka government clarifies its position on the matter.
MSRTC Suspends Kolhapur-Karnataka Bus Services
Following the instructions of Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik, Abhijit Bhosale, CPRO of MSRTC, announced that ST buses traveling from Kolhapur to Karnataka will be canceled indefinitely to ensure the safety of passengers and employees.
A total of 90 buses from Belagavi division and 125 from Chikkodi division of NWKRTC operate towards Maharashtra, while MSRTC runs 20 buses in Belagavi division and 70 in Chikkodi division.
Recently, a conductor of a Karnataka transport corporation bus was attacked for failing to respond in Marathi by a passenger on the outskirts of Belagavi, a district town bordering Maharashtra.
