New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs has barred the setting up of any new solar, wind or hybrid renewable energy projects within one kilometre of the Line of Control, the Line of Actual Control and the International Border.

The guidelines, issued by the ministry’s Internal Security wing, also restrict the hiring of engineers, staff, employees and labour from land-bordering countries, particularly Pakistan, Bangladesh and China, for the implementation of such projects. Engagement of personnel from these nations will require prior permission from the central government.

Under the same set of instructions, the ministry has classified all areas lying within 50 km of the LoC, LAC or International Border as “sensitive areas.”
