Mumbai: At least 2 people were reportedly dead near the Sandhurst Road railway station in South Mumbai, and three others were injured after a train hit the passengers rushing to catch the train. The train accident occurred on Thursday evening at around 7 pm, when a suburban train hit a group of people who were reportedly trying to cross the tracks. According to reports, the accident occurred amidst ongoing disruptions to Central Railway's suburban train services due to a flash strike by employees' unions.

As per the reports, the incident occurred during a chaotic time at the station, with many commuters rushing to catch their trains. On information, the railway police and railway officials rushed to the site, and the injured were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared two people dead.

Reportedly, the flash strike by employees' unions, was called to protest an FIR registered against two engineers in connection with the June 9 Mumbra accident, which claimed four lives. The protesters had blocked train operations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) for nearly an hour, causing chaos and overcrowding during peak evening hours.

According to officials, the victims had alighted from the wrong side of the train and were moving on the tracks when the accident occurred. The injured were rushed to the hospital, where two were declared dead, while is undergoing treatment in critical condition.

The Mumbra incident, which stirred the protests, involved two trains passing each other at a sharp curve, resulting in four fatalities. The Thane railway police had booked two Central Railway engineers under section 125(a)(b) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for their alleged role in the accident.

Reports also suggested that the protests, which began around 5.50 pm, caused massive disruptions to train services, with senior officials assuring protesters that they would pursue the matter with state administration. The train services resumed around 6.45 pm, but the incident has raised concerns about railway safety.

Further details regarding the train accident are awaited.
