New Delhi: India's largest news body, the News Broadcasters Federation (NBF), met Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in the national capital. The meeting, held this evening, was attended by representatives of NBF member channels. Discussions focused on issues concerning the industry, transparency in measurement systems, and other critical matters affecting broadcasters.
Importantly, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed the delegation that the Government of India has decided to withdraw the 10+2 advertising cap for television channels.
The advertising cap had been hanging over the heads of TV channels for the past few months and had become a challenge to the financial model of broadcasters across India. The abolition of the ad cap is potentially a major boost for the television industry, particularly with the festive season around the corner.
Reacting to the development, NBF Founding President and Republic Media Network Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami said, “We are delighted and very grateful that the Minister considered our request favourably, and we thank Mr Ashwini Vaishnaw for informing us about the decision at the meeting.”
