NCP (Sharad Pawar) MPs To Meet PM Modi On Monday As Parliament Stalls, Supriya Sule Confirms

New Delhi: All 8 MPs from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) faction led by Sharad Pawar are set to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday. The upcoming meeting, scheduled at the Parliamentary office, is crucial amid disruptions in Parliament that have prevented multiple important issues from being raised on the floor of the House.

NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) leader and MP Supriya Sule confirmed the appointment and said that the delegation would use the opportunity to place pressing concerns from Maharashtra before the prime minister. She said that the party had formally sought time and was expecting the meeting at 11 am. 

Amidst growing speculation around a proposed delimitation legislation, Supriya Sule asserted that it was too early to take a position on the bill, and stressed that the party would consult its INDI Alliance partners once the draft is tabled.

“House Is Not Functioning”: Sule Cites Need For Direct Engagement

Speaking to reporters, Sule explained the reason behind seeking a meeting outside Parliament, saying, “Unfortunately, the House is not functioning. There are so many challenges and issues in our constituencies that we have not been able to raise……That is why our 8 MPs are going to meet the Prime Minister to discuss Maharashtra issues at the Parliamentary office at 11 AM. We have officially asked for PM’s time…”

The decision showed growing frustration among opposition MPs that the continued logjam in both Houses has left key state-level problems unaddressed. Meanwhile, the scheduled meeting for the Pawar faction, which holds 8 seats in Parliament, offers a direct channel to flag issues ranging from agrarian distress to urban infrastructure in Maharashtra.

On questions regarding the Centre’s reported plans to bring a delimitation legislation, Sule struck a cautious note, saying, “It would be premature to comment as the bill had not yet been introduced.” 

She added that once the legislation is presented, the party would take a collective view, saying, “When it comes, we will discuss every bill with our alliance partners.”

The remark signalled that the NCP (SP) will coordinate within the INDI Bloc before finalising the stance, rather than reacting in isolation. The party is expected to weigh both constitutional and electoral implications before taking a public position, with delimitation possibly altering political representation across states.

The meeting with Prime Minister Modi is being seen as an attempt by the Sharad Pawar-led NCP to keep governance issues in focus even as parliamentary business remains stalled.
