Two Die, 28 Fall Ill Due to 'Diarrhoea Outbreak' in Odisha’s Ganjam
Initial investigations suggest that the outbreak may be linked to the consumption of well water, especially as the area experienced rainfall over the past week.
Bhubaneswar: At least two people died and 28 others have fallen ill due to a suspected diarrhea outbreak in Odisha's Ganjam district in recent days, officials reported on Friday.
A medical team from Berhampur was dispatched to Adapada village in the Sanakhemundi block on Thursday to provide treatment. Of the 28 affected individuals, 20 are receiving care at the Adapada Community Health Centre, with one patient in critical condition referred to MKCG Medical College and Hospital. The remaining patients are under medical observation at their homes, according to Sarojini Devi, Additional District Medical Officer (ADMO) of Ganjam.
The deceased have been identified as Kenchu Nayak and Kanchan Nayak, both over 70 years old. They had been suffering from other health conditions in addition to the suspected diarrheal infection.
Initial investigations suggest that the outbreak may be linked to the consumption of well water, especially since the area experienced rainfall over the past week. "Samples from various water sources in the village have been collected for laboratory testing," Devi said.
