Omar Abdullah Warns Fresh Terror Threats to Kashmiri Pandits Expose Gaps in Security, Demands Urgent Action

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday warned that fresh terror threats to Kashmiri Pandit employees must be treated with utmost seriousness, urging security agencies to act firmly and ensure full protection.

Abdullah, while speaking to reporters in Srinagar, questioned repeated claims that terrorism had ended in Jammu and Kashmir.

“We keep hearing terrorism is over, no one is left. But then this threat comes, so where is it from?” he asked.

However, he stressed that those responsible for security arrangements should not dismiss such warnings.

“Action must be taken against those behind these threats, and complete security arrangements must be ensured for Pandit workers,” Abdullah said.

Meanwhile, recalling past incidents, he pointed out that targeted killings had shaken the minority community only a couple of years ago.

“How many names should I take of those who were targeted? Even many employees were preparing to flee. They were kept in their camps, gates locked, almost like they were under arrest,” he added.

Earlier, National Conference president Farooq Abdullah questioned the timing and circumstances of the alleged threat ahead of Independence Day. He demanded that the Union Home Ministry investigate the matter and identify its source.

“Security is under the Lieutenant Governor. It should be investigated where these threats came from and who made them,” he said, adding that the online nature of the threat raised doubts.

Meanwhile, reports suggest security has already been tightened in areas inhabited by Kashmiri Pandits, with some employees temporarily allowed to work from home as a precaution. The alleged threat comes just days before Independence Day celebrations, when security is being heightened across Jammu and Kashmir.
