Monsoon Session LIVE: Both Houses Adjourned For The Day Amid Uproar By Opposition On CJP March Crackdown

The Lok Sabha was adjourned following continued Opposition protests. The Lower House will next convene at 11 a.m., Wednesday (July 22, 2026). Chairperson Saikia reprimanded the House for not maintaining decorum and allowing the House to function smoothly. 

The Upper House was adjourned for the day following continued uproar despite Deputy Chair Harivansh Singh’s request to maintain decorum. The Rajya Sabha will reconvene at 11 a.m. on Wednesday (July 22, 2026).

Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury on Tuesday moved an adjournment motion under Rule 267, alleging that several gates of Parliament were sealed and internet services were suspended, preventing MPs from leaving the House to meet citizens protesting nearby.

Congress MP K C Venugopal on Tuesday submitted an adjournment motion notice in the Lok Sabha seeking suspension of the day's business to discuss the ongoing crisis in the country's examination system, alleged paper leaks in competitive examinations, and police action against protesting students.

Priyanka Gandhi said: “Students struggle so much, go for coaching only to get bright future…you are destroying that future. These children don’t have resources…they are genuinely asking that they should be heard. We all are here because of them…you can at least listen to them…they are rightly asking for the Education Minister’s resignation”.

Simultaneously, Minister L Murugan will propose BJP MP Manmohan Samal and TMC MP Sagarika Ghose for vacancies on the Joint Committee for key constitutional and legal amendment bills.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to introduce the Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Bill, 2026, in the Rajya Sabha today. The legislation aims to make insulting the national song a criminal offense, with the government pushing for its consideration and passage.

Despite the chaotic scenes and continuous sloganeering in the Well, Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal successfully introduced a crucial Bill in the Lok Sabha to increase the sanctioned strength of Supreme Court judges from 34 to 38. 

While presiding officers repeatedly appealed for decorum, the opening day ultimately saw proceedings dominated by protests and high-stakes political friction before being called off.

As the Monsoon Session enters Day 2, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to lead a meeting of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Parliamentary Party. Meanwhile, the government is poised to introduce crucial legislation, such as a bill proposing criminal penalties for insulting the national song, Vande Mataram.

The Lok Sabha is slated to take up the Supreme Court judges Bill for consideration and passing today, pushing ahead with legislative business despite the chaotic scenes and continuous opposition protests rocking the house. 

The high-stakes bill, which addresses key judicial provisions, is expected to see heated debates as treasury benches press for its approval amidst the ongoing uproar over national security and recent street protests.
