PM Modi Holds Phone Call With Netanyahu, Focuses On Defence, Tech And West Asia

Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a phone call from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday amidst a volatile situation in West Asia. The conversation between the two leaders centred on the growing India-Israel special strategic partnership and the shifting dynamics in West Asia, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) confirmed.

According to the PMO, the two leaders took stock of the progress made in bilateral cooperation and discussed the latest developments across the West Asian region, where tensions continue to draw global attention. The call explained the close coordination New Delhi and Jerusalem have maintained on both strategic and regional issues.

The discussion comes amid ongoing international scrutiny of security and diplomatic developments in West Asia. Both sides used the opportunity to reaffirm their commitment to expanding collaboration across key sectors while staying aligned on regional matters.

Review Of India-Israel Special Strategic Partnership

The PMO asserted that PM Modi and Benjamin Netanyahu reviewed the sustained progress achieved under the India-Israel special strategic partnership. They underlined the importance of building on that momentum and deepening engagement for the benefit of both nations.

"The two leaders reviewed sustained progress in India-Israel Special Strategic Partnership and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the bilateral cooperation across various sectors for the mutual benefit of the two countries," the PMO said in a statement.

India and Israel partnership spans defence, agriculture, innovation, technology, water management, cybersecurity and trade, showcasing the scope of the relationship that has grown steadily in recent years. During the conversation, regional developments also featured prominently in the conversation. The PMO noted that the two leaders discussed the evolving situation in West Asia and exchanged views on recent developments in the region.

Though the PMO did not share further specifics of the exchange, it confirmed that PM Modi and Israeli PM Netanyahu shared their perspectives on the latest situation in West Asia. The call took place at a time when the region remains tense because of continuing security and diplomatic activity.

Both leaders agreed to maintain regular contact going forward. "The two leaders agreed to remain in touch," the statement said.
