PM Modi to Attend Mauritius' National Day Celebrations as Guest of Honour on March 12

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been invited to be the guest of honour at Mauritius' 57th National Day celebrations on March 12. The announcement was made by Mauritian Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam, who expressed his pleasure at hosting such a distinguished leader.

PM Modi's visit to Mauritius is scheduled for March 11-12, and it comes amidst his busy international engagements, including recent visits to Paris and the United States. The invitation and acceptance highlight the strong and enduring relationship between India and Mauritius, which is anchored in shared history, demography, and culture.

Mauritius celebrates its National Day annually on March 12, marking its independence from British rule in 1968 and its transition to a republic within the Commonwealth in 1992. This year's celebrations are expected to be particularly special with the presence of PM Modi, who has been a key figure in strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations.

Prime Minister Ramgoolam emphasised the honour of hosting PM Modi, noting that his visit is a testament to the close relations between India and Mauritius. The Indian-origin population, which comprises nearly 70% of Mauritius' 1.2 million people, further cements the bond between the two countries.

Earlier in November 2024, PM Modi congratulated Ramgoolam on his historic electoral victory in Mauritius and expressed his eagerness to work closely with him to further strengthen their unique partnership. The upcoming visit is expected to reinforce this partnership and explore new avenues of cooperation.
