PIL filed in Rajasthan HC against Ashok Gehlot for alleging corruption in the Judiciary

A public interest litigation (PIL) has been filed against the Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday (September 1) in the Rajasthan High court requesting for initiating suo motu action against him in the form of contempt of court proceedings for alleging corruption in the country's judiciary. 

According to the PIL, CM Gehlot's comments amounts to wilfully scandalizing the judiciary. Notably the veteran Congress leader and CM had alleged on Wednesday (August 30) that the ‘corruption prevalent in the judiciary is terrifying’. Therefore the plea filed by advocate Shiv Charan Gupta states action should be taken invoking the court’s jurisdiction under Article 215 of the Indian Constitution.

Gehlot on Wednesday had alleged there is rampant corruption in the judiciary, including in the higher judicial institutions. In a shocking allegation, he claimed that some lawyers write down judgments, take them to the court, and then the exact same are then pronounced.

"Aaj jo bataiye itna corruption ho raha hai judiciary ke andar. Itna bhayankar corruption hai, kai wakil log toh maine suna hai, likh ke le jaate hain judgment aur judgment wohi aata hai (Today, there is rampant corruption in the judiciary. I've heard that the corruption is so terrifying that a lot of lawyers write judgments and take them along to court, where the same are pronounced)," he had said while speaking to the media. He further added, "What is happening in the judiciary? Be it lower or upper (court), things are serious and people should think about it.” 

Taking potshots at the Centre, the chief minister said the CBI, Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Income Tax department get directions from the top and the agencies conduct raid without making prior assessments.
