Pune Shocker: Drunk Teen Smashes Through Bridge Railing in High-Speed Crash
Drunk 19-year-old Atharva Jain booked by Pune police after speeding his car off Garware Bridge in a reckless crash.
A late-night car crash on Pune’s prominent Garware Bridge has spotlighted the ongoing danger of driving under the influence. An intoxicated 19-year-old driver lost control of his speeding vehicle, smashing through the bridge's protective barrier and sending the car plunging off the edge.
Following the high-speed accident, the Deccan Police Station officially registered a case against the teenager.
Mid-Night Crash on Garware Bridge
The incident occurred at approximately 1:30 AM on May 25 near the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj statue. The accused, identified as 19-year-old Atharva Amit Jain, was driving his car (registration number MH 31 FR 5863) along Jangli Maharaj Road from Deccan Gymkhana.
As he headed towards Good Luck Chowk on the Garware Bridge, his excessive speed—combined with being under the influence of alcohol—caused him to lose total control of the vehicle. The car rammed violently into the bridge railing, broke through the structure, and crashed onto the ground below.
Police Investigation and Local Response
Despite the late hour, the dramatic crash quickly drew a large crowd of local residents and commuters, given that the area is typically a busy traffic zone. Miraculously, no pedestrians or other motorists were hurt in the wreckage, and no injuries were reported apart from the driver himself.
Upon receiving the alert, personnel from the Deccan Police Station rushed to the scene. Authorities have since served a notice to Jain, and a formal investigation into the reckless driving incident is currently underway.
