Railways MoS Ravneet Singh Bittu Resigns, Fuelling Buzz Over Contesting Punjab Elections

New Delhi: Ravneet Singh Bittu on Friday resigned as the Minister of State for Railways and the Food Processing Industries. According to government spokesperson, President Droupadi Murmu has accepted his resignation with immediate effect.

President's Press Secretary Navika Gupta said, “The President of India, as advised by the Prime Minister, has accepted the resignation of Shri Ravneet Singh from the Union Council of Ministers, with immediate effect, under clause (2) of Article 75 of the Constitution of India.”

The development has fuelled speculations that the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) leader might contest Punjab Assembly elections next year. He has been politically active over the past few months, voicing his opinions on various issues, including Honey Trehan's Diljit Dosanjh-starrer Satluj. Calling the movie a “propaganda”, the BJP leader accused it of presenting “half the story” of Punjab's militancy years.

Notably, Bittu fought the state elections from Jalalabad in 2017. However, he lost to Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Sukhbir Singh Badal.

He served as the Member of Parliament (MP) from Ludhiana, Punjab, from 2014 to 2024 as a Congress leader.

He joined BJP in 2024 after resigning from Congress. He was nominated as a candidate for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, but faced defeat.

‘My Journey Continues’

After resigning as the MoS, Ravneet Singh Bittu expressed his “heartfelt gratitude” to President Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving him the opportunity to serve the nation as Minister of State in the Government of India.

In a post on X, he wrote, “It has been an honour to serve the people of India, especially my beloved Punjab. I remain committed to the ideals of service, nationalism, and the vision of a Viksit Bharat under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji.”

He further stressed that his journey of public service will continue with renewed dedication.
