Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi extended wishes on the occasion of the 77th Republic Day, calling the Constitution the “greatest weapon for every Indian.”

Gandhi posted on X, “Heartfelt Republic Day wishes to all my fellow citizens. Our Constitution is the greatest weapon for every Indian - it is our voice, the protective shield for our rights.”

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also wished the people on the occasion of the 77th Republic Day, stating that the Constitution is a shield that safeguards the interests of Indians.

On the occasion, she took to X, posting, “Heartfelt Republic Day wishes to all my fellow citizens. On this day, our Constitution came into effect, guaranteeing every Indian the values of liberty, equality, justice, and fraternity. Our Constitution is the shield protecting us, 140 crore Indians. Our resolve to safeguard it is as strong as a rock. Long live the Constitution! Long live India!”

Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi on Friday extended heartfelt greetings to citizens on the occasion of Republic Day and said that January 26 symbolises India's self-respect, unity and strength as the world's largest democracy. 

Sanghavi said, “The adoption of the Constitution on January 26, 1950, under the visionary leadership of Dr BR Ambedkar, laid the foundation of equality, justice and democratic values in the country.” 

He recalled the immense contribution of Gujarat to nation-building, mentioning stalwarts such as Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Morarji Desai, Gulzarilal Nanda and Kanhaiyalal Munshi. Sanghavi said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has carried forward this legacy by giving new direction and global recognition to India and Gujarat through development-driven governance.

China’s President Xi Jinping said China ‍and India were “good neighbours, friends, and partners” as he wished President Droupadi Murmu ‌congratulations on the South Asian nation’s Republic Day, the official Xinhua news agency reported on Monday (January 26, 2026).

Mr. Xi said that over the past year, China-India relations have continued to improve and develop and are of “great significance for maintaining and promoting world peace and prosperity,” according to ⁠Xinhua.

Celebrations of the 77th Republic Day at the Kartvya Path on Monday (January 26, 2026) will be based on the theme of the 150th Anniversary of the national song, Vande Mataram, a timeless mantra that awakened the spirit of Swadeshi, self-reliance, and freedom in India’s national consciousness.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla unfurled the national flag at his residence. Following the celebrations, he addressed the media and extended his greetings. “On the occasion of #RepublicDay, I extend greetings to all citizens of the country. Republic Day is the day of resolve, determination and abiding by the decorum of the Constitution and taking the country forward. 77 years ago, we adopted the Constitution of India. It is the longest written constitution in the world. It is the living guide for the people of India. This is an occasion for us to take a pledge that together, we should make India a Viksit Bharat by 2047, when we complete 100 years of independence,” he was quoted as saying.

Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat unfurled the national flag at the 77th Republic Day Celebration in Tharad, Banaskantha. CM Bhupendra Patel was also seen in attendance.

Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis can be seen unfurling the national flag during the 77th Republic Day celebrations in Mumbai.

In Vadodara, Gujarat, young swimmers celebrated the 77th Republic Day by holding the flag of India while swimming at the Sama Sports Complex.

In his first Republic Day since taking charge as the party's youngest National President, Nitin Nabin unfurled the National Flag at the BJP headquarters on Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg.

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner and Administrator Bhushan Gagrani unfurled the National Flag at the iconic BMC building today.

Top leadership has gathered at Gandhi Maidan in Patna for the state’s main Republic Day event. Governor Arif Mohammad Khan has arrived to lead the festivities, accompanied by CM Nitish Kumar and Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary. High security is in place as the state showcases 12 departmental tableaux.

Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami extended his heartiest greetings to the people of the country on Republic Day. 

He said, "On the occasion of Republic Day, I extend my best wishes to all the people of Uttarakhand. I pay my heartfelt tribute to the martyrs of our country, the freedom fighters, and our brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the nation. On this occasion, we also resolve that, under the leadership of our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, the vision for a developed and self-reliant India has been set, and we will all contribute to fulfilling it. We will work with dedication, hard work, and honesty to contribute to the realisation of a developed India..."

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has extended warm wishes on the auspicious occasion of the 77th Republic Day, celebrated on January 26, 2026. The Indian Air Force restated its commitment towards safeguarding the nation's skies with honour and courage through a post on X. 

Tagging the Defence Minister of India (Rajnath Singh), the Official Account of Directorate of Public Relations, Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff, Additional Directorate General of Public Information and Spokesperson of the Indian Navy at Naval Headquarters & DPR; the post stated, "The Indian Air Force extends warm greetings on the 77th Republic Day, 2026. Ever vigilant, the IAF remains infallible in resolve, impervious to challenges, and precise in action--steadfast in safeguarding the nation's skies and upholding the ideals of our Constitution with honour and courage. #RepublicDay2026".

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) will present a tableau highlighting the nationwide implementation of the three new criminal laws — the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam — on Republic Day.

The laws came into force on July 1, 2024.

A total of 33 Delhi Police personnel, including five women officers, have been named for prestigious medals this Republic Day. The honours celebrate extraordinary bravery and meritorious work, highlighted by 14 Gallantry Medals awarded for high-stakes operations.

The government will host the annual ‘Bharat Parv’, a six-day national cultural and tourism festival, from January 26 at the Red Fort lawns as part of the Republic Day celebrations, officials said on Sunday (January 25, 2026).

It will be inaugurated by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Union Minister for Tourism and Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, the Tourism Ministry said.

On the occasion of Republic Day, the Government of Delhi has announced the grant of Special Government Remission to eligible convicts.

The remission is being issued under Section 473 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023 (corresponding to Section 432 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973) and in line with the Ministry of Home Affairs Notification No. U-11011/2/74-UTL (i) dated March 20, 1974, according to an official release. 

Delhi’s Home Minister Ashish Sood stated that the remission shall apply to convicts sentenced by courts of criminal jurisdiction in Delhi and lodged in Central Jails of the NCT of Delhi or outside Delhi, who are undergoing sentence as on 26.01.2026, subject to prescribed conditions.

Rocket launcher system ‘Suryastra’ with deep-strike capabilities, newly raised Bhairav light commando battalion, and Zanskar ponies and Bactrian camels will be part of the Republic Day Parade for the first time, officials said.

Marking a first, the contingent members of the mounted 61 Cavalry will be seen in battle gear, and key Army assets, including indigenous platforms accompanied with personnel, will roll down the Kartavya Path in a “phased battle array formation”.

The 61 Cavalry, known for its imposing presence as its members wear ceremonial uniform and a striking headgear, has traditionally been the leading contingent of the armed forces in the ceremonial parade.

The overarching themes of the event at the Kartavya Path will be 150 years of 'Vande Mataram' and Atmanirbhar Bharat. The themes 'Swatantrata ka Mantra: Vande Mataram' with special tableaux and a new musical rendition composed by MM Keeravani and sung by Shreya Ghoshal and 'Samriddhi ka Mantra: Aatmanirbhar Bharat' will highlight India's journey towards prosperity and self-reliance.

Rajasthan CM Bhajanlal Sharma unfurls the National Flag at the CM residence in Jaipur. "I extend greetings to people of the state on the occasion of Republic Day." he said.

"On this day in 1950, our Constitution came into effect. India's Constitution is the longest written Constitution in the world, and we are all bound by that Constitution. India is the largest democracy in the world. I pay tribute to all those who dedicated themselves to the freedom movement and brought the Constitution into effect," he added.

Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay extended warm Republic Day greetings to PM Modi and the people of India, highlighting the close bonds and shared values between the two nations. In a social media post, Tobgay said the occasion celebrates India’s inspiring journey and reflects the enduring strength of India-Bhutan ties.

Indian Army Chief of Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi, greeted the nation on its 77th Republic Day.

The Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi was on Monday adorned with Tricolour-themed floral decorations to mark the country's 77th Republic Day.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio extended his wishes to India on its 77th Republic Day and appreciated the Quad cooperation between Washington and New Delhi on defence and other fronts.  He said that the US-India relationship delivers “real results" for the two countries through close cooperation on defence, energy, critical minerals and for the Indo-Pacific region through the Quad.

A total of 30 tableaux - 17 of States/Union Territories and 13 of Ministries/Departments/Services - will roll down with a broad theme of 'Swatantrata ka Mantra: Vande Mataram' and 'Samriddhi ka Mantra: Aatmanirbhar Bharat'. 

The tableaux will showcase a unique mix of 150 years of national song Vande Mataram and the nation's rapid progress on the back of the growing self-reliance across sectors, dipped in its rich and vibrant cultural diversity.

To highlight the relevance of the timeless Buddhist wisdom of social harmony, peace, compassion and mutual coexistence, a large group of international Monks and Nuns representing 40 countries will be the honoured guests at this year's Republic Day Parade.

At a press conference, the Secretary General of IBC Ven Shartse Khensur Rinpoche Jangchup Choeden said, "At the parade, India will be displaying its might, but it is also the land of Buddha Dhamma, spreading the message of peace, love, and kindness to many countries in the world. We believe in the power of compassion and care. We need peace in the world today and friendly coexistence."

In view of the Republic Day Parade, Delhi Traffic Police has announced would elaborate traffic arrangements and restrictions for smooth conduction of the parade.

• No traffic on Kartavya Path from Vijay Chowk to India Gate from 6 pm on 25 January till the Republic Day Parade is over.
• No cross traffic on Kartavya Path from 10 pm on 25 January at Rafi Marg, Janpath, and Man Singh Road till the Parade is over. 
• The C-Hexagon at India Gate will be closed for traffic from 9:15 am on January till the parade crosses Tilak Marg.

President Droupadi Murmu will preside over the grand celebrations at Kartavya Path, New Delhi. The President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, will attend as the Chief Guests on this momentous occasion.

The 77th Republic Day parade will officially commence at 10:30 AM, following a solemn wreath-laying ceremony by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the National War Memorial. A thunderous 21-gun salute using indigenous 105mm light field guns will set the stage for a 90-minute spectacle. Key attractions include a series of cultural performances celebrating "Unity in Diversity" and a majestic aerial flower shower by Mi-17 helicopters in the 'Dhwaj' formation.
