New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday clubbed YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani's plea with Ranveer Allhabadia amid the ongoing India's Got Latent controversy.
The top court also issued notice to Maharashtra and Assam on the plea of Chanchlani for quashing of FIRs to Mumbai.
"We are basically on which FIR should be considered," he said.
Chanchlani, one of the persons named in the FIR sought direction to quash or transfer the case registered in Guwahati in connection with the case of allegedly promoting obscenity in the show including Allahbadia the key accused.
He was booked under Sections 79(words, gestures insulting modesty of woman) ,95 (hiring/ employing child to commit offence), 294 (sale of obscene objects to child) and 296 (obscene acts and songs) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and for offences under the Information Technology Act, 2000, Cinematograph Act, 1952 and Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986.
This development comes as earlier this week the Guwahati High Court granted pre-arrest bail to Chanchlani and asked him to be present before investigating officers within 10 days.
SC Bars Ranveer Allahbadia, Associates From Airing Shows on YouTube
In its ruling earlier this week, the apex court reprimanded YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia for his objectionable remarks on the YouTube show India's Got Latent.
A bench of Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh stated, “The petitioner or his associates shall not air any show on YouTube or any other audio/video platform until further orders.”
For the unversed, several cases were filed against Allahbadia, popularly known as BeerBiceps, for the comment on parents and sex on the show, which is hosted by comic Samay Raina.
"The interim protection against arrest is granted further subject to the condition that the petitioner will extend full cooperation to the ongoing investigation. He will not be accompanied by any counsel inside the police station during the course of the investigation," it said.
Allahbadia was directed by the bench to deposit his passport with the investigating officer of Police Station Nodal Cyber Police, Thane. "He shall not leave the country without prior permission of this court," the bench said.
