Video Captures Moment Haryana BJP Leader Shot Dead By Neighbour Over Land Dispute

Sonipat, Haryana:  A shocking CCTV footage has emerged capturing the moment Haryana BJP leader Surendra Jawahar was shot dead inside a shop in Sonipat on Friday night. The accused, identified as Monu, reportedly fired at least two bullets at Jawahar over a long-standing land dispute, officials said.

The brutal killing took place around 9:30 pm, with the entire incident caught on camera. The footage shows Monu pushing Jawahar into a shop, pointing a gun at his head, and shooting him at point-blank range. In the chilling video, Jawahar is heard shouting, "Maar diya, maar diya" (He's killed me), as two to three people try to intervene. However, Monu fired the fatal shots before fleeing the scene.

Police launched an immediate investigation and arrested the accused on Saturday morning. Preliminary findings indicate that the dispute stemmed from a land transaction, where Jawahar had purchased a plot from Monu’s uncle and aunt.

The accused had reportedly warned the BJP leader against stepping onto the property, and tensions escalated when Jawahar visited the land to resolve the issue. Enraged, Monu chased him and later executed the fatal attack inside the shop.

A senior police official stated that they received information about a shooting in Jawahra village, which led to the death of Surendra Jawahar. The victim had purchased land from the accused’s relatives, and an ongoing dispute over the property ultimately resulted in his murder.  

Jawahar’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and further questioning of the accused is underway, authorities confirmed.

Similar Incident in Punjab

In a separate case of political violence, Shiv Sena leader Mangat Rai Manga was shot dead in Punjab’s Moga district on Thursday night. Three assailants on a motorcycle targeted the outfit’s district unit president but mistakenly shot a 12-year-old boy instead. Manga fled on a two-wheeler, but the attackers chased him down and killed him.
