Mumbai is under an orange alert with forecasts of heavy to very heavy rainfall in certain areas. The IMD has issued a red alert today for Uttarakhand, Gujarat.
New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand, Vidarbha, and Gujarat.
Mumbai is under an orange alert with forecasts of heavy to very heavy rainfall in certain areas. Similarly, Thane and Palghar districts face an orange alert, while Raigad district is on red alert, anticipating heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated instances of extremely heavy rain.
In the National Capital, cloudy weather is expected, with a possibility of very light drizzle accompanied by thunderstorms.
Northeast India is predicted to experience heavy rainfall at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Assam, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, and Mizoram over the next four days.

According to the Met department bulletin, intermittent spells of rain with short intense rainfall and winds gusting to 50 kmph are very likely on Monday.
The IMD has predicted squally weather with wind speed reaching 45 kmph to 55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph likely to prevail along and off north Maharashtra from July 22 to July 24.
"Fishermen are advised against venturing into sea and along and off the coast during the orange alert," the IMD said.

60 picnickers were rescued on Sunday after they were stuck in gushing water on a hill in Belapur node of Navi Mumbai amid heavy rains. Navi Mumbai received 83.38 mm of rainfall in five hours ended at 1:30 PM on Sunday, causing water-logging in several areas in Vashi, Nerul and Sanpada.
Officials said approximately 60 picnickers were stuck on the hill located behind Artist Colony in Belapur. After receiving the information, teams of fire brigade, police and Navi Mumbai disaster management personnel rushed to the spot, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation PRO said.
"The rescue operation was carried out using ropes," he said, adding a few people are trapped in the water behind an industrial unit in Turbhe area, also in Navi Mumbai, and efforts are on to rescue them safely. Heavy rains are lashing Mumbai and the metropolitan region since the early morning hours, causing inundation in several areas.

Water is receding, and normalcy is being restored in affected areas. The SRC prohibited vehicle movement on submerged roads and bridges. Damage to properties will be assessed once water recedes.
Emergency operation centres are monitoring the situation 24x7. Health department instructed to store anti-snake venom, and energy department to restore power.
Efforts to disinfect tubewells and repair roads and bridges are underway. Nuapada district received 96.1 mm of rainfall, Sonepur 73.6 mm, and Boudh 66.5 mm. Athmallik block in Angul district recorded the highest rainfall of 154.4 mm.
The depression has weakened into a low-pressure area and is moving towards Chhattisgarh.
