Why Tejasvi Surya Asked Guests to Avoid These 2 Gifts at His Wedding?

Bengaluru: BJP MP Tejasvi Surya, who married renowned Carnatic singer and Bharatanatyam dancer Sivasri Skandaprasad, made a special request to his guests invited for the wedding reception.

The couple hosted their wedding reception on March 9.

Tejasvi Surya asked his guests not to bring flowers, bouquets, and dry fruits as gifts on the occasion. He mentioned that wedding flowers and dry fruits are often left behind after the event, ultimately going to waste.

“In the 1 crore+ weddings that take place annually in India, 85% of wedding flowers & bouquets are discarded within 24 hours after the event.- And 300,000 kg of dry fruits from weddings are left behind annually,” BJP MP said.

He said that the potential charity of such bouquets and dry fruits stood at Rs 315 crore annually. 

“With this in mind, we request you to please avoid bringing floral bouquets or dry fruits on this occasion,” Tejasvi Surya said.

BJP MP Tejasvi Surya tied the knot with Carnatic vocalist Sivasri Skandaprasad in a traditional wedding ceremony in Bengaluru on March 6. The event was attended by several political leaders, including BJP figures like Annamalai, Pratap Simha, Amit Malaviya, BY Vijayendra, and Union Minister V Somanna.

Sivasri Skandaprasad is a 28-year-old Carnatic singer, a daughter of Seerkazhi Sri J Skandaprasad, a Mridangam maestro. She is known for crooning a song in Mani Ratnam's hit Kannada version Ponniyin Selvan franchise. Apart from being a singer, she is also a trained Bharathanatyam dancer and Namasankeerthanam artist. Her LinkedIn profile describes her as a "passionate painter" and part-time "modeling".  

Tejasvi Surya is a two-time Member of Parliament for Bengaluru South and the President of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha.
