When an electric vehicle rolls out of a factory, attention usually settles on its range, price, or design. What rarely makes the news is the testing behind it. Engineers repeatedly charge batteries, examine electronics under stressful conditions and check whether every reading can be trusted. If those checks fail, a launch may be delayed. If they are rushed, the consequences can follow consumers onto the road.
This largely invisible work is becoming more important as India expands manufacturing in electric vehicles, electronics, renewable energy, defence and other high-growth sectors. Factories and investment announcements may be the most visible signs of that expansion, but producing at scale is only part of the challenge. Indian-made products must also prove that they are safe, consistent and capable of meeting international expectations.
That is where specialised engineering businesses such as Pune-based Revine Technologies enter the picture. Founded in 2016, Revine began as a test-and-measurement supplier. It has since moved towards helping companies work through the broader problems that arise between an early design and a finished product.
For a manufacturer, the distinction is practical. Buying an instrument answers the question of what equipment is available. An engineering partner must answer harder questions: What needs to be measured? Where could the product fail? How can testing be made faster without weakening it? And who will keep the system working after it has been installed?
In an electric-vehicle programme, that work could mean designing a process that identifies a weak battery pack before it is fitted into a car. In an electronics factory, it could mean catching a production fault before thousands of units are shipped. For a renewable-energy project, dependable measurements can reveal whether equipment is performing as promised. These outcomes are less glamorous than a product launch, but they can reduce delays, avoid waste and protect users.
Revine says it works with organisations in several of these sectors, although it has not publicly identified individual customers or released project-level results. That missing detail matters. A verified case study showing how much testing time, cost or waste was reduced would give readers a clearer measure of the company’s impact than a list of capabilities. It would also reflect a broader change in business reporting, where evidence of an outcome carries more weight than claims of expertise.
Still, the direction of Revine’s growth offers a useful view of how India’s industrial support system is changing. The company says its annual revenue rose from more than Rs 50 crore in 2023 to over Rs 92 crore in 2026. It has expanded beyond Pune, established offices across India and opened an operation in Dubai. Its next target is to build a business with annual revenue exceeding Rs 150 crore.
Those figures are company-reported, but they point to growing demand for firms that can stay involved after a piece of equipment has been sold. Manufacturers increasingly need help with installation, training, maintenance and accurate calibration, as well as designing systems suited to a particular factory or product. The value lies not in how many technologies a provider can name, but in whether those technologies solve a costly problem.
This also gives Atmanirbhar Bharat a meaning beyond local assembly. A country is not self-reliant simply because more products carry a “Made in India” label. It must be able to design them, test them, correct failures and support them throughout their working lives. That requires skilled engineers, reliable laboratories and the confidence to measure domestic products against demanding global standards.
Revine’s strategy combines overseas technology with Indian engineering support. It is also exploring the local development of selected testing products and customised systems. The promise is easy to understand: equipment designed closer to the customer may be better suited to local requirements, easier to support and less dependent on imports. The harder task will be demonstrating that locally developed products can match global standards for accuracy, reliability and service.
Artificial intelligence is beginning to influence this work as well, although its most useful applications may be less dramatic than the current excitement around AI suggests. In a factory, software can help cameras spot defects, warn that a machine may need maintenance or bring attention to unusual data. Used carefully, such tools can help engineers make quicker decisions. They do not remove the need for testing; they make dependable testing and good data even more important.
For Praveen Niraj, CEO and Managing Director of Revine Technologies, the national opportunity lies in building that deeper capability. “India’s journey towards becoming a global manufacturing and technology leader will be defined not only by what we make, but by how well we engineer, test, validate and innovate,” he says.
The comment captures a challenge that extends well beyond Revine. India’s manufacturing ambitions will ultimately be judged not by the number of factories announced, but by the quality of what leaves their gates. A battery must remain safe after years of use. A medical device must give a dependable reading. A component made for export must perform the same way in every batch.
The companies working on those questions are unlikely to become familiar consumer brands. Their contribution is usually buried inside a safer vehicle, a more reliable machine or a product that reaches the market without another round of redesign. Yet their work helps determine whether buyers trust Indian engineering.
For Revine, the next stage will require turning its expanding capabilities into documented results that can be independently understood: fewer failures, faster testing, lower waste or more reliable products. For India, the larger lesson is already clear. Manufacturing leadership begins on the factory floor, but global credibility is earned in the quiet, painstaking work of proving that what has been built will perform as promised.
