Debate With Arnab: Imran Khan Let Off, India Needs Tougher Rules For Foreigners?

Debate With Arnab: Actor Imran Khan’s unconditional apology before the Bombay High Court has sparked a debate over foreign nationals, OCI cardholders and participation in political protests in India.

Khan, a U.S. citizen and Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholder, challenged a “Leave India Notice” issued by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) following his alleged participation in a Mumbai protest concerning the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The court sought an unconditional apology and an undertaking that he would not participate in similar protests. It continued interim protection against the Leave India Notice while the proceedings remain pending.

Tonight, Arnab asks: Does India need tougher rules for foreign nationals participating in political demonstrations, or clearer enforcement of existing conditions? How should authorities distinguish between the rights of Indian citizens and the privileges available to OCI cardholders?
