Debate With Arnab: Kerala Judge’s Son In Hit & Run As Vendor’s Family Fights For Justice
Debate With Arnab: A street vendor is dead. A judge’s minor son, accused of driving the Mercedes-Benz involved in the fatal Kochi crash, has secured bail twice. The victim’s family demands answers and alleges attempts to shield the accused.
Jayabalakrishnan was returning home after closing his roadside food stall when the car allegedly struck his scooter from behind in Cheranalloor, Kochi. Police initially released the teenager on station bail. Following protests, he was taken into custody again, booked under the more serious charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, and produced before the Juvenile Justice Board, which granted bail.
The Kerala High Court has also permitted police to register a case against the judge, whose name appears on the vehicle’s registration.
Arnab debates the police response, the family’s allegations and the central question: Is the law being applied equally, regardless of the accused’s connections?
