Debate With Arnab: Mamata’s TMC Loses Party & Also Huge Face In Nandigram

Only Arnab talks about it. Watch Debate With Arnab as the political battle around Mamata Banerjee, the Trinamool Congress split and the high-stakes Nandigram bypoll intensifies.

The Election Commission has frozen the original All India Trinamool Congress name and the party’s iconic Flowers & Grass symbol as an interim measure amid rival claims over the party’s identity and leadership. This is not a final ruling on which faction ultimately controls the original TMC name and symbol.

For the October 6 West Bengal bypolls, the Mamata Banerjee-led faction has been allotted the name Mamata All India Trinamool Congress and the Football Player election symbol. The rival Arup Roy-led faction, backed by Ritabrata Banerjee, will contest as the Democratic Trinamool Congress with the Envelope symbol.

The Nandigram contest has become central to this political showdown. The bypoll was triggered after Suvendu Adhikari vacated the constituency after retaining Bhabanipur, where he defeated Mamata Banerjee in the 2026 Assembly election, according to reports. The question now is whether the loss of the original TMC identity will hurt Mamata Banerjee’s electoral campaign in one of Bengal’s most politically charged battlegrounds.

Will the Football Player symbol become Mamata’s new political identity? Can the rebel camp challenge her organisational control? And what will this fight mean for Nandigram and the future of Bengal politics?
