Former Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu joined the YSR Congress party in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday, December 28, 2024. The 38-year-old joined the party under Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. However, the star cricketer decided to quit YSRCP in less than 2 weeks, highlighting the need to take a break from politics.

Will Ambati Rayudu continue to play cricket?
Former Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu, who recently joined the governing YSRCP in Andhra Pradesh in the presence of its president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, has announced his resignation only a few days later. Rayudu has declared that he want to step away from politics for a spell. This action comes only days before the state Legislative Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
Rayudu said on social networking site X, "This is to inform everyone that I have decided to quit the YSRCP Party and stay out of politics for a little while. Further action will be conveyed in due course of time. Thank You.
Despite walking away from politics, he promised to announce his future ambitions in due course. Rayudu joined the YSRCP with Deputy Chief Minister K Narayana Swamy and Rajampeta Lok Sabha member P Mithun Reddy on December 28, 2023.
Rayudu is most known for representing India in cricket and playing for franchises like Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL), but he has also played for various state teams in domestic cricket. He has been interacting with the public through various programs over the last few months.

Ambati Rayudu explained his decision to leave the YSRCP, citing his strong dedication to the Mumbai Indians franchise, MI Emirates, as the key reason for his abrupt departure. Rayudu announced that he will be joining the Mumbai Indians for the ILT20's second season in the UAE. The powerful batter, known for his explosive performances, declared his wish for a "politically non-affiliated" position while actively participating in professional sports.
Rayudu departed the Mumbai Indians during the 2017 Indian Premier League after playing a key role in aiding CSK to their fifth IPL triumph last year. Now, he is set to re-join the Mumbai Indians in the forthcoming ILT20, which will be held across three locations in the UAE - Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah - from January 19 to February 17.
