It is quite surprising thing that despite being one of the most popular sports it took so long to be finally introduced into the Olympics. Cricket was first seen in the 1900 Olympics when only two teams participated in the game. The game was played across two days and it was in the Test format. The match had a total of 24 players as each team fielded 12 players and the English side eventually went on to win the match by 158 runs.
Cricket set to be introduced again in the Olympics
Since then cricket has failed to get recognition on the Olympic stage and finally, the time has arrived and the Indian team could be seen at the Olympics. The qualification scenario is yet to be divulged but the game will be played in a T20 format which has been the most popular format over the years.
People including sporting celebrities and former cricketers welcomed this decision. Recently India clinched both the Gold medal in men's and women's cricket at the Asian Games. A huge portion of the world population currently watches cricket and it could see a further rise in its audience.
