The Australian cricket team led by Pat Cummins was able to register its first win in the ODI World Cup 2023 against Sri Lanka by five wickets. The Aussies chased down a total of 210 runs with more than 14 overs to spare. The Australian team also jumped to the 8th spot in the updated points table and now will be playing Pakistan in its upcoming match.

Adam Zampa helps Australia achieve first win in the ODI World Cup 2023 

The Sri Lankan cricket team started off well while batting first during the AUS vs SL ODI World Cup 2023 match and openers Kusal Perera and Pathum Nissanka added 125 runs off 130 balls. However, Australian spinner Adam Zampa led Sri Lanka's batting collapse and picked up four wickets with the ball. Zampa ended the innings with figures of 4/47 in eight overs and was also adjudged the Player of the Match. Apart from Zampa, Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins also contributed with two wickets whereas Glenn Maxwell also picked up a wicket.

Chasing the target, the Aussies didn't start well wherein opener David Warner and Steve Smith were dismissed for 11 and 0 runs respectively. However, Mitchell Marsh (52) and Marnus Labuschagne led the team's comeback and brought the innings back on the track. Marsh also did a 77-run partnership with Josh Inglis (58) and played an important role in the team's win.
