At the Vijay Hazare Trophy semifinal match between Tamil Nadu and Haryana at the SCA Stadium in Rajkot, Baba Indrajith of that state batted with tape over his lips in an impressive display of resolve. The strange scene happened when Tamil Nadu found themselves in a difficult situation after falling to 53 for three in 14 overs while chasing a 294-run total. With his lips taped shut, Indrajith even needed medical attention during the 16th over of the match.

Baba Indrajith's Resilient Stint Amidst Adversity in Vijay Hazare Trophy Semifinal

Indrajith sustained an unusual injury during the innings break, prompting the unusual action. The batter slipped in the lavatory and cut his lip, which complicated the already intense semifinal matchup in an unanticipated way. Following N Jagadeesan's expulsion at 76 for four in the 21st over, Tamil Nadu's troubles only got worse.

Even with Indrajith's strong performance—64 runs in 71 balls with five fours—Tamil Nadu lost by 63 runs when they attempted to reach 293. Earlier, Indrajith scored an undefeated 103 to help Tamil Nadu defeat Mumbai in the quarterfinals. He is the team's top run scorer in this Vijay Hazare Trophy season, having scored over 270 runs from seven innings, including a century and a half.

Indrajith slipped after his ice bath during the mid-innings break, resulting in a laceration to his top lip. Despite the tumble, he was able to keep batting. He expressed disappointment at not being able to finish the game as the team's highest run-getter in the competition, but assured fans that he would return soon. Indrajith later took to Instagram to express his gratitude for everyone's concern and well-wishes. He described the severity of his fall, saying he landed face-first in the bathroom, resulting in a large cut on his upper lip and the inside of his lip. He expressed confidence in his quick return after seeking medical attention and receiving stitches. His story read: 

“Thank you all for your concern and wishes. Slipped and fell very badly when I stepped out of the ice bath mid-innings. Fell face-on in the bathroom and was shaken up quite a bit. Was bleeding with a deep cut on the upper lip and the inside of the lip. Managed to bat somehow but was gutted to not cross the finish line for the team. Just went to the hospital and got my stitches done. Should be back soon. Thank you once again,”
