Cricketing legends Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar have reportedly received invitations to attend the consecration ceremony of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya scheduled for January 22, 2024. According to reports, two of the geatest batsmen ever to grace Indian cricket will attend the ceremony in Uttar Pradesh in the presence of over 8,000 dignitaries.
The foundation stone for the temple was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in August 2020, nine months after the historic Supreme Court judgement. PM Modi is also expected to be a part of the ‘pran pratishtha’ ceremony, along with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat.
According to reports, invitations have been extended to various dignitaries, with Akshay Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan, Ratan Tata, Mukesh Ambani, Gautam Adani, and select journalists among those likely to receive them. The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra is managing the arrangements for the event, which is expected to be attended by around 6,000 priests and saints from all over India.
Virat Kohli to return to action against South Africa
As far as Virat Kohli is concerned, the 35-year-old is currently enjoying some off time after a brilliant ODI World Cup 2023 campaign. He finished the tournament as the highest run-scorer as India reached the final. However, India failed to win the summit clash against Australia, extending its run to secure an ICC trophy even further. Kohli will next be seen in action during the two-match Test series against South Africa later this month.
