Ruturaj Gaikwad turned it around after first match

Following an explosive batting, Ruturaj Gaikwad has taken the top position in the run-scoring chart of the series. The right-hand batter has so far accumulated 213 runs in the 4 matches and could eventually attain the man of the tournament award.

While everything seems to have panned out well for Gaikwad, it all started on the wrong foot. In India vs Australia 1st T20, which took place in Vizag on 23rd November 2023, Gaikwad got out without facing a delivery. A huge miscommunication between Gaikwad and other opener, Yashasvi Jaiswal, resulted in a run-out, and an unwanted Diamond Duck has corroded the statistics of Gaikwad.

Since then the two have sorted things out and following that there has been no report of a hiccup as far as running between the wickets is concerned.

Ruturaj Gaikwad reveals what agreement took place between him and Yashasvi Jaiswal

Following the culmination of the 4th T20, Ruturaj revealed that after the disaster in the first match, he had a chat with Jaiswal and they agreed to refrain from taking "risky singles."

“After the first match, we decided that we’d be off from risky singles. We’ll just look for boundaries. He’s someone who takes the game on and regardless of any situation, he likes to be aggressive. The discussion has always been that if the wicket is suitable, we’ll go with a positive intent. But I think the focus is taking care of the first two overs,” said Gaikwad.

“After he (Jaiswal) got out (in the first match), he was walking in and he immediately said sorry. I said it’s ok, it happens and it was maybe a mistake. I think mistakes do happen, so I am fine with that.”
